The new Light Rail DMU self powered Sprinter Rail System
( Diesel Multiple Unit ) is the newest member of the
(NCTD) North County Transit District which is part the
San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) family
The Sprinter is operated by the North County Transit
District of Oceanside, the area's public transit agency.
The agency also operates the San Diego Coaster Trains and Breeze Bus.
Sprinter service is operated with Desiro class diesel multiple units
BUILT by Siemens in Germany, main-line regional railways.
Twelve married pairs of Siemens VT642 Desiro DMUs were delivered to
the Escondido Yards and Shops in August 2006 2007 and now in revenue
service using some pre-existing 22-mile-long Escondido Branch trackage
of the San Diego Northern Railroad. Station platforms are for
the 15 stations serving the cities of Oceanside Transit Center
(west end), Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido (east end).
The DMU RAIL line provides service to Palomar College and
California State University San Marco is the only elevated station
The Oceanside Transit center also has Amtrak Metrolink Coaster trains
Breeze Buses, MTS Buses, Greyhound Buses, Riverside Transit Agency Buses
